This diy hair growth spray not only smells amazing, but also is a great natural way to help your hair grow healthy and strong.

I have always struggled with oily hair. High school was the worst phase and I had to wash my hair every day. I saw some improvement in college, but still had to wash every day in order for it to look decent. After back-to-back pregnancies, with all of the crazy hormones, I found myself in need of some major hair support again! I was beyond ready to be rid of the extreme oiliness and to not need to wash my hair every day. As a mom, time is so precious and washing my hair every day was not at the top of my priorities.

There were a few problems that I was looking to solve. First, I wanted to finally be rid of my extreme oily hair and not need to wash it every day. Second, I wanted my hair to be stronger and not break as easily. And finally, I wanted to help my hair grow faster and be thicker and healthier. Postpartum hair loss is insane!

I discovered essential oils and all of the ways they can benefit your hair and decided to give them a try.

How To Make DIY Hair Growth Spray

This diy hair growth spray is so easy to make, doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, and is one of the main ways I got my hair looking stronger and healthier.

The first step is to find a glass spray bottle in the size and look that you want. The spray bottle that I use is only 4 oz., but it actually lasts me longer than you would think. Typically, 3-4 months at least.

Once you find your glass spray bottle, you want to fill it halfway with alcohol-free, witch hazel. I like to use my kitchen food scale for this to make it even easier.

Now, grab your essential oils and add them to the spray bottle. There are several essential oils that are good for the overall health of your hair that I suggest everyone use in their spray. Add 10 drops each of Lavender, Cedarwood, and Rosemary to your spray bottle. Then, if you have a very specific hair issue you are looking to solve, keep reading to see the benefits of a few other essential oils you can add to your spray bottle. I usually do about 40-50 drops of essential oils total to my 4 oz. spray bottle.

Finally, fill the spray bottle the rest of the way with water. Put the top on and shake to combine.

  2. Add 10 drops each of Lavender, Cedarwood and Rosemary essential oils
  3. Add 10 drops of additional essential oils needed for your hair. (If no others are needed, then do 15 drops each of the oils in step 2)

  5. Put the top on and shake to combine.

Lavender Oil Benefits for Hair

Lavender essential oil has been shown to produce more hair follicles to help thicken and strengthen hair and stimulate hair growth. It can also promote a healthy scalp and reduce dandruff.

Cedarwood Oil Benefits for Hair

Cedarwood essential oil is amazing support for postpartum hair loss. It helps to strengthen the hair and reduce hair loss.

Rosemary Oil Benefits for Hair

Rosemary essential oil is a top oil for hair growth and thickness, helping to reduce hair loss. It is great for either dry or oily hair and can also help to prevent split ends.

Other Essential Oils for Hair

Peppermint essential oil is your best friend if you struggle with oily hair like I do. Tea Tree essential oil is a great one to add to help moisturize your hair if it is typically drier, and also to help if you struggle with a dry/itchy scalp. Eucalyptus essential oil stimulates the scalp and hair follicles, promoting healthy hair growth and reducing itchy scalp. Ylang Ylang essential oil provides moisture and shine if you deal with dry and brittle hair.

How to Use your DIY Hair Growth Spray

Before use, always shake your spray bottle to combine the oils with the witch hazel and water again. You can see that they will rise to the top when not in use.

Then, spray on the top of your head, gently moving hair out of the way to get the hair growth spray on the scalp and roots better.

Last, use your fingers to massage it into your scalp and roots of your hair. This massaging motion stimulates the hair follicles for hair growth.

I personally apply the hair growth spray when my hair is already wet after showering. This means I am applying it usually twice a week since that is how often I wash my hair. But you can also apply on dry hair, and it will help to fluff it back up and give it some volume again. When you are first beginning to use the hair growth spray and needing a lot of hair support, using it more often is key.

Note: This hair growth spray is safe for kids too. The essential oils are diluted very well with the amount of witch hazel and water in the recipe.
