This cucumber dill tzatziki sauce is the perfect healthy and delicious snack to enjoy with veggies and chips, or pair it with a dinner dish.

It was right after I gave birth to my fourth baby at home that I tried tzatziki for the first time. A friend from our church small group brought our family a meal of grilled chicken and veggies, with pita bread and tzatziki dip, and it was absolutely delicious! I immediately knew that I wanted to start adding Greek and Mediterranean food like it into our meal plan.
It is always a little intimidating trying new flavor profiles and food groups, but the tzatziki recipe I made turned out to be so simple. And bonus, my kids are obsessed with it too! I love using Greek yogurt as the base because it adds extra protein to a meal or snack. Any time I can get in extra protein in my day I am all for, especially for keeping my kids feeling full for longer. Other variations use sour cream which is fine, but way fattier and no protein content.
Make this healthy and delicious cucumber dill tzatziki sauce and enjoy it with a meal. Or enjoy it with some veggies and crackers for a snack.
How to Make Cucumber Dill Tzatziki Sauce
To get started making this delicious and healthy cucumber dill tzatziki sauce, you will need a medium bowl. I always prefer to start with a bowl that has a lid, so if there is any leftover, it is easy to pop in the refrigerator. No need to transfer and dirty up another container. Once you have your bowl, add the Greek yogurt into it.

Prep Ingredients
Now, it is time to prep the cucumber. Wash it first and then remove the peel. If you prefer, you can leave the cucumber peel on, but it can sometimes add a bitter taste to the tzatziki sauce. There are several different methods you can use to chop the cucumber before adding it to the bowl. My preferred method is to use the food processor. Quick and efficient. You can also shred it on a cheese grater (you will wind up with a lot more excess water squeezed out this way), or you can very finely chop it with a knife. Add it to the bowl of Greek yogurt.
Rinse and dry your fresh dill, and finely chop it. Add 2 tbsp. to the bowl. If you do not have fresh dill, you can use dried dill. Just make sure to cut the amount in half to 1 tbsp. Dried herbs are more potent and can quickly become overpowering. You can always add more if needed.
Mix Ingredients
The remaining ingredients are ready to be added now. Fresh garlic or minced garlic are both fine. Olive oil or avocado oil. I love that this recipe has so many variations to make it simple and easy to make. When you add the salt, keep in mind what you plan to dip into your cucumber dill tzatziki sauce. If you plan to dip veggies, you will probably want to go a little heavier on the salt. But if you plan to use crackers or Pita bread/chips that are already salted, you can go lighter on the salt.

Stir all of the ingredients together well to mix, and you are ready to enjoy! My family loves to eat this delicious and healthy cucumber dill tzatziki sauce with a Greek chicken bowl, or other Greek/Mediterranean style meals. It is also great to enjoy with veggies for a snack.
Cucumber Dill Tzatziki Sauce Ingredients:
- 2 cups plain, nonfat Greek yogurt
- 1 cucumber, peeled and grated (or finely chopped)
- 2 tbsp. fresh chopped dill
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp. olive oil or avocado oil
- 1 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/2-1 tsp. salt, to taste
Cucumber Dill Tzatziki Sauce Instructions:
- Grab a medium glass bowl and add the 2 cups of Greek yogurt into it. I prefer to use a bowl that has a lid with it for quick and easy storage.
- Now it’s time to prep the cucumber. After you wash it, remove the peel. Then shred it to your preference. Use a cheese grater (more water squeezed out with this method), fine chop it with a knife yourself, or use a food processor. Squeeze out any excess water and add the cucumber to the glass bowl with Greek yogurt.
- Rinse and dry your fresh dill, and finely chop it. Add 2 tbsp. to the bowl.
- Add all of the remaining ingredients and stir well to mix. Note: If you are using the tzatziki sauce mainly for dipping veggies, you might want to go heavier on the salt. But if you are dipping in chips/crackers that are already salted, go lighter on the salt you add.
- Enjoy your cucumber dill tzatziki sauce with a meal or as a snack. Cover and store any leftovers in the refrigerator.
Recipe Variations:
- Sour cream can be used instead of Greek yogurt. However, keep in mind that adds a huge amount of fat content to the recipe. It also takes away all of the extra protein you get from the Greek yogurt.
- Many instant pots now have a function where you can make your own Greek yogurt!
- You do not have to peel the cucumber. Keep in mind that the peel can sometimes introduce a bitter flavor to the tzatziki sauce.
- Fresh garlic or jarred, minced garlic can be used.
- If you do not have fresh dill, you can use dried dill instead. Just make sure to cut the amount in half to 1 tbsp. to start and add more if needed. Dried herbs are more potent than fresh.
How to Store:
Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days after making. Freezing not recommended.
