These peanut butter honey oatmeal balls are the perfect snack bite to satisfy a sweet tooth and keep you feeling full for longer.

I discovered the amazingness that are peanut butter honey oatmeal balls when I was breastfeeding. Breastfeeding always leaves me feeling munchy, especially in the afternoon! I knew that eating oats could keep me feeling full longer, as well as increase my milk supply. When I found a recipe using oats and sweets, it was truly the best of both worlds…because I have a major sweet tooth too!
And we all know that whatever snack mom is eating, the kids want too. I keep them stocked in my fridge as often as possible now that I know my kids love them too. Every day after quiet time, my four kids come out of their rooms asking for a treat. I love having these oatmeal balls as a healthier and more filling option to satisfy their sweet tooths. But beware, have some wipes at the ready! (Don’t say I didn’t warn you, lol).
Important Note! If you have children under the age of 1, please do not allow them to eat these oatmeal balls. They contain honey.
How to Make Peanut Butter Honey Oatmeal Balls
Grab a medium size glass bowl and start by adding the oatmeal. I have made this recipe using both quick cook oats and old-fashioned oats. Either option works, but you may need to add a little more of the binding ingredients (peanut butter and/or honey) if you use old-fashioned oats because they are larger.
Next, I like to add the mini M&M’s. My kids prefer when I use mini M&M’s over mini chocolate chips…I think it’s mainly a color preference. But sometimes if I am running low on M&M’s, I will do half and half, using mini chocolate chips to stretch it out.
After you add the dry ingredients to the bowl, now it’s time to add the binding ingredients. These are the ingredients that help to hold everything together in a ball shape. First, measure the peanut butter. I have only ever used smooth peanut butter for this recipe because that is what I prefer to buy, but I don’t see why crunchy wouldn’t work either. It would just add more texture to the oatmeal balls.

Once the peanut butter is added, measure the honey and pour it in the bowl too.
The final two ingredients are salt and vanilla extract. Add them to the bowl and then stir well to mix all of the ingredients together. Make sure to scrape the bottom really well because dry oatmeal likes to hide down there…
Forming the Peanut Butter Honey Oatmeal Balls
When you have mixed all of the ingredients together, place the bowl in the refrigerator and set a timer for 30 minutes. This time to chill is important to help them bind together better.
Once the timer is done, remove the bowl and grab a different container that you will store them in until they are gone. Now it’s time to roll the oatmeal balls.
Personally, I use a heaping tablespoon amount to roll into a ball. The size is completely up to you; however, just note that the smaller you make them, the more you have to roll.
To roll the oatmeal balls, grab the amount you want to use and place it in the palm of your hand. With your other hand, roll it around in a circle (clockwise or counterclockwise works) until the oatmeal is in the form of a ball. Place in your storage container.

Don’t worry if you do one too big or too small. It’s easy to adjust. Just pinch off any you need to remove and roll the ball again if it’s too big. If it’s too small, add a little more and roll again. Easy peasy.
When all of the oatmeal balls are formed and placed in the storage container, place them in the refrigerator for storage.
Random Side Note:
The order that you add the ingredients to the bowl doesn’t really matter. However, I’ve discovered that doing it in this order means the fewer measuring cups I have to use or rinse off between uses. I start with dry ingredients (oatmeal and M&M’s), and then do the binding ingredients (peanut butter and honey) at the end. This way the only measuring cup I need to use the whole time is a 1/2 cup. And I won’t have to rinse it off in between measuring each ingredient.
Peanut Butter Honey Oatmeal Balls Ingredients:
- 2 cups of oatmeal, quick cook or old-fashioned
- 1/2 cup mini M&M’s

- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp. salt
Peanut Butter Honey Oatmeal Balls Instructions:
- Grab a medium glass bowl and pour in the oatmeal.
- Next, pour in the M&M’s (or other desired toppings).
- Then, add the binding ingredients, peanut butter and honey.
- Finally, add the vanilla extract and salt.
- Stir well to mix all of the ingredients together.
- Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Remove from the refrigerator and begin to form into balls.
- Place the oatmeal balls in a container and store in the refrigerator.

Recipe Variations
- You can use either quick cook oats or old-fashioned oats for this recipe. If you go with old-fashioned oats, you may need to add a tiny bit more of honey or peanut butter to get them to stick enough to roll into a ball.
- Both crunchy and smooth peanut butter work, but I feel like smooth sticks better. There is enough texture and crunch added to the oatmeal balls with the chocolate chips and M&M’s.
- The vanilla extract can be left out if desired.
- This recipe makes about 24 oatmeal balls. Feel free to halve or double the recipe based on your needs and how many kids you have.
- If you want to change things up and not have chocolate in the oatmeal balls, opt for some dried fruit and/or nuts.
