ABOUT

At Akin for the Simple Life, I share tips to help you simplify your mealtime, routines, and homeschool so that you have more time to enjoy life together as a family.

husband and wife with 4 kids surrounding them

I joined the world of non-toxic living when I was pregnant with my third. I have always struggled with falling asleep and staying asleep. It used to take me at least 30 minutes to fall asleep, and then I would wake up multiple times at night. When I saw a friend sharing a solution by using essential oils, I decided to give them a try.

When I discovered that they actually worked and worked really well, I started learning more and more ways to incorporate them into our home. It took me down a whole path of researching products that were safe for my family to use. Our whole lifestyle changed.

I am also a very organized person, and love to keep things as simple as possible. Becoming a mom, plus homeschooling on top of that, made me simplify even more. I want to explore and experience new things with my family, while not stressing out about a huge list of things that need to be done at home. Simple routines and systems help me to stay sane while also allowing me to really enjoy life.

About Me

I married my high school sweetheart, Matt, after my freshman year of college. We have both lived in Tennessee all of our lives and plan to keep it that way.

Since I was young, I wanted to homeschool my own kids. I am a type A person, very plan it out and organize it, but in my homeschooling, I am much more relaxed and go with the flow.

I am passionate about sharing natural wellness. As a mom of four, being proactive with my family’s health is a top priority.

I was the valedictorian in high school and summa cum laude in college. I see how little any of that really matters now that I married an entrepreneur and had four kids. I want my kids to excel in life and find their passions more than just memorizing information and passing the tests.

a few fun facts about me:

My favorite food is olives.

I am obsessed with cute paper, notebooks, pads and pens.

All four of my children were natural births, and my youngest was born at home.

I spend any free time I can get curled up on the couch reading a book. My favorite category is historical fiction.

I love to exercise, preferably first thing in the morning. If I can’t wake up before the kids, I will get them set up with their breakfast and get in a quick workout before we start our school day or head out for an adventure.

I share about keeping things simple in your home because I know the pressures women have as stay at home moms and homeschool moms. The pressures of keeping up but also being present.
